Welcome to Alameda County Safe Parking, located in San Leandro, California—a compassionate and innovative program dedicated to providing safe parking services for homeless individuals living in their vehicles.

With carefully designated our location which is  equipped with necessary amenities, such as lighting, restrooms, and security patrols, our Safe Parking site ensures that participants can rest peacefully and regain a sense of dignity. Our committed staff and volunteers work to create a welcoming community, connecting participants with vital resources and assistance to help them transition towards stable housing and a brighter future. At Alameda County Safe Parking we strive to create an environment where every person is valued, respected, and given the opportunity to rebuild their lives with compassion and understanding.

Safety and Security

We prioritize the safety and well-being of our participants. To ensure a secure environment, we employ dedicated and vigilant security guard services, offering peace of mind to both our homeless individuals and the community.

Shore Line Charging Station

At the Alameda County Safe Parking Program, we understand the importance of staying connected. To assist our participants, we offer a convenient shoreline charging station, ensuring access to charging facilities for phones and laptops, enabling them to stay connected and connected with resources.

Housing Navigation and Hosing Plans

At the Alameda County Safe Parking Program, we are committed to supporting our participants in their journey towards stable housing. Our dedicated team offers personalized housing navigation services and conducts regular 1:1 meetings with program leadership, fostering a collaborative and supportive approach to help individuals access the resources and assistance they need to secure permanent housing solutions.

Medical Street Outreach Team

We collaborate with the Tuburcio Vasquez Clinic to provide street outreach medicine, ensuring access to vital medical care and support for individuals facing homelessness. Our partnership aims to improve the overall health and quality of life for those in need, promoting a compassionate and comprehensive approach to their well-being.

Food and Pantry

We strive to create a comfortable and welcoming space for our participants. Thanks to generous donations, we are equipped with a coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave, and a small food pantry, providing essential amenities to support those in need.

Restroom Facilities

Ensuring the well-being and comfort of our participants is of utmost importance at the Alameda County Safe Parking Program. To meet their essential needs, we provide clean and accessible restroom facilities, promoting dignity and hygiene for all those seeking refuge in our program.

Behavioral Healthcare Services

At the Alameda County Safe Parking Program, we prioritize the mental well-being of our participants. We offer access to behavioral health services through Alameda County Behavioral Health, and for immediate assistance, individuals can reach out to the Alameda County Crisis Line at 1-800-309-2131. Additionally, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available at 1-800-273-8255 to provide support and resources for those in crisis. Your mental health matters, and we are here to help.

Program Participant Requirements

At the Alameda County Safe Parking Program, we focus on tailoring requirements and qualifications to meet the unique needs of each individual. Here are some key criteria:
  1. Vehicle Ownership: Eligible individuals must be the legal owner or co-owner of the vehicle they intend to use for safe parking.
  2. Valid Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required to ensure responsible use of the vehicle within the program.
  3. Insurance and Registration: Participants must have valid insurance and registration for their vehicles, or have the ability to obtain insurance
  4. No Outstanding Warrants: To ensure a safe and secure environment, participants must not have any outstanding warrants or legal issues that may pose a risk.
  5. Agreement to Program Rules: All participants are required to sign an agreement acknowledging and adhering to the program's rules and guidelines.
  6. No Couples or Children: Please note that due to our physical location constraints, we can not enroll couples and children at this time (we are pet-friendly
  7. Pet Friendly: We welcome participants with pets, as we understand the importance of their companionship.

 ** Please note that we do not accept RVs or converted vans for safe parking at this time. However, we remain committed to providing support and resources to eligible individuals with other types of vehicles

Through these carefully considered requirements and qualifications, we create a supportive environment, assisting participants in their journey towards stable housing and an improved future.

GETTING STARTED: How to Join the Program

Thank you for your interest in the Alameda County Safe Parking Program. To get started, please follow these next steps:
  1. Please call 211 to notify them that you are experiencing homelessness,  please be patient and stay on the line.
  2. Complete the contact form​ below.
  3. Call our program at 510-593-4660 to inquire about availability and review your eligibility with our intake staff.
  4. Schedule a site visit at the safe parking location to familiarize yourself with the facilities and program setup.
  5. Complete the intake packet, providing us with essential information to assist you better.
  6. Review the housing plan and program process to understand the support and resources available to you.
  7. Bring the necessary documents, including your photo ID, driver's license, vehicle registration, and insurance, to complete the registration process.
  8. Once approved, you can start safely parking immediately at our designated location, taking the first step towards stability and progress.
  9. This entire process usually takes place from start to finish in under an hour
